Have you ever dreamed of sleeping high up in the branches of old oak trees, with the rustling of the leaves to help you fall asleep and the morning song of the birds as your alarm clock? The Bockhop tree house hostel in Borstel, Lower Saxony, makes this dream come true in a way that will delight real tree house lovers: the houses rest solely on 150-year-old oak trees, without solid foundations, stilts or poles. Up to eight meters above the ground, you will find an oasis of peace that lets you experience nature in a way that is hardly possible anywhere else.
The treehouse hostel currently offers two accommodations: the award-winning treehouse “Bel Etage” (according to its own information, the largest rented treehouse in Germany and winner of 1st place in the international Treehouse Contest 2021) and the house “Solitär”. Both are fully insulated, equipped with a wood-burning stove and infrared heating and can therefore be booked all year round. Including your overnight stay, you have free access to the spa area with heated whirlpool, barrel sauna and outdoor shower as well as to the covered outdoor kitchen on the 25,000 square meter garden grounds.
Amenities Overview:
If you are traveling with children, please note the following: The Baumhaus-Herberge Bockhop is a child-free retreat; guests must be at least 16 years old. This makes it particularly suitable for couples and nature lovers looking for real peace and quiet. Surrounded by horse pastures and in the migration area of cranes that rest here every year on their way to Africa, Bockhop is a place you won’t soon forget. You can find more information in a report on Stern.de.
Treehouse Overview
Bel Etage tree house
The “Bel Etage” tree house is the hostel’s flagship. With 38 m² of living space and a furnished roof terrace of 18 m², it sets new standards in tree house construction. In the living and dining area, the supporting oak tree grows right through the house and gives you a special experience of nature in the middle of the room. The separate bedroom with double bed offers you a beautiful view of the treetop. The facilities also include a Rondo wood-burning stove, a kitchenette and a bathroom with a composting toilet. Bed linen, towels and firewood are included.
Solitaire tree house
The second tree house “Solitär” is in no way inferior to its big brother when it comes to atmosphere. On 32 m², it offers you a cozy living room, a bedroom with double bed, dining area, kitchenette and a loggia to pause and take a deep breath. Here, too, a wood-burning stove and infrared heating ensure that you can spend a pleasantly warm night all year round. Alpaca hair comforters are included.

An absolute hidden gem!The owners, Hans and Silvia (and their sweetest dogs) made us feel welcome the minute we arrived. The treehouses are just stunning - beautifully built overlooking the lush greenery and tastefully decorated, even with a fireplace. For us, the best was sitting in the swinging chairs on the 8m high rooftop terrace, surrounded by oak branches and birds’ chirping. It’s really impressive that the whole thing is done and managed by Silvia and Hans. You can tell from talking to them how much effort they put into it and how passionate they are.For dinner they treated us with the most delicious burgers, and breakfast included scrambled eggs using eggs from the hens in the garden.I could write a page more but Hans said no need to write too much, so here’s the bottom line: come here, you’ll have an amazing time!

If we could give more stars, we would. The treehouse isn't just accommodation, but a place to slow down. The old oak tree that grows right through the middle of the treehouse has an energy you can feel. Furnished with great attention to detail, high-quality furnishings, lovingly arranged. You can't get any closer to nature without having to do without anything. The grounds are the perfect complement and are certainly unparalleled in the summer. But even in winter, they invite exploration. We've rarely met hosts who share their home with their guests with such joy. You can tell they're living their dream. We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast in the kitchen, and the dogs added the perfect finishing touch. Such a sweet bunch! You feel welcome and like you've dropped in with friends. We will definitely be back and are so happy to have found a place that allows us to unwind so completely that our batteries are fully recharged after just two days.

So, if you're looking for a truly unique vacation, this is the place for you. And if you're bringing your dog, you're even welcome. You'll notice this in the friendly, family atmosphere at breakfast and throughout the grounds. There's so much to explore that three nights were anything but boring. Waking up in a treehouse is quite an experience. Looking out the window at the neighboring treehouse is even more impressive. Listening to the fascinating explanations of the builder and hotel owner, Hans, will leave you in awe. His detailed stories become clear bit by bit as you take a closer look at the entire complex. The treehouses are all unique, each with its own distinct features. There's also a circus wagon, lovingly and individually designed. In the evening, you can sit by the fire, relax in the whirlpool, unwind on your private treehouse terrace, or lie in a shell by the small lake. If you enjoy preparing your own meals in a rustic, fully equipped outdoor kitchen, this is the perfect place for you. Our stay was six months ago now, but we have very fond memories and can still picture it vividly. We had a truly wonderful three days there in July, and they certainly won't be our last. We would definitely love to stay in the circus wagon again. As a place to unwind and discover many new and unusual things, we wholeheartedly recommend the treehouse hotel and are already looking forward to our next visit.

Highly recommended...
A beautifully located and tastefully and lovingly designed treehouse hotel.
The treehouses offer a level of comfort we absolutely didn't expect...a bathroom and various utensils for making coffee and tea...again, with great attention to detail.
The roof terrace invites you to relax and chat.
The entire grounds also offer lovely spots to unwind, whatever the weather.
The outdoor kitchen was also a highlight, simply fantastic.
The welcome and hospitality from Hans and Silvie were very warm and friendly.
The wellness area, which we thoroughly enjoyed, including the fantastic whirlpool, offers an incredibly beautiful view in utter peace and quiet.
We would also like to mention that, unfortunately, we were only here for one night, but we had a wonderful rest.
We'll definitely stay longer next time...until then, thank you very much.
