Treehouse Hotel at the Adventure Station – Fun for the Whole Family

In the middle of the Lauenburg Lakes Nature Park, 25 kilometers south of Lübeck, you will find the Ratzeburg tree house hotel. There is a former railroad station that has been turned into an adventure site: the Schmilau adventure station. Here, everything revolves around old trains, trolleys and quirky sleeping facilities. One of these is the two birdhouse treehouses, small wooden houses in the shape of oversized birdhouses that stand three meters above the ground and lift you up into the treetops for a night. If you’re looking for a rustic adventure without much comfort and enjoy combining nature, silence and a bit of curiosity, you’ll find it here.

Each of the two birdhouses offers space for up to two people: a large bed and an additional mattress. The furnishings are deliberately kept simple, Wi-Fi is available, there is an outdoor toilet with washing facilities, and you will find showers in the neighboring Hundertwasser wash wagon and in the Saunalok directly on the site. You will need to bring your own sleeping bag and towels. If you wish, you can book breakfast in the morning for 7.50 euros per person. Both tree houses are next to each other, so two couples or a small family with children can book together.

The special thing about this place is the surroundings: the Schmilau adventure station offers trolley tours on a disused railroad line, a frog pond, a fireplace, a campfire site and the option of using the Saunalok with sauna and whirlpool for a small extra charge. The site is idyllically situated in the countryside and is ideal for anyone who finds a normal hotel room too ordinary. The birdhouses can be booked in the season from April to October and are advertised as a tip for newlyweds, but are just as suitable for adventurous families or groups who want to combine the trolley tours with an overnight stay.
