Thuringia’s largest climbing forest, Koala, offers a variety of climbing routes, from very easy for the little ones to thrills at great heights for the bravest! The Koala climbing park was built on a former Russian military site and offers 200 obstacles on 12 courses with different levels of difficulty. The obstacles range in height from a child-friendly 0.5m to a real challenge of 14m.

The mini course with low obstacles is designed so that it can be used without safety equipment. In addition to the obstacles, it offers the smallest climbers a swing and a ropeway. At the other end of the difficulty scale, the black course has everything a climber’s heart desires. You have to work your way up to a height of 14 m and can enjoy a 120 m long zip line through the treetops.

Schools, companies and clubs can demonstrate team spirit in the team-building area. Advance bookings for groups of 10 or more people can be made at the e-mail address given. After a thorough safety briefing, you can explore the climbing forest at your own pace. The latest version of the CLiC-iT® Adventure C25 belay system has been in use since 2024. It offers you maximum safety and yet plenty of comfort when climbing. The 2 communicating carabiners work smoothly and are designed to prevent both carabiners from opening at the same time.

The snack bar at the entrance offers refreshments with a selection of hot and cold dishes and drinks. There is a dining room and a sun terrace. You can also bring your own food and eat it in the picnic area.

Please note that only cash payment is possible at the cash desk. Dogs must be kept on a leash on the entire premises.

Opening hours 2025 Koala climbing forest

  • The start of the 2025 season is planned for 27.03.2025.
  • High season is from 16.06.25 to 31.08.25 – open daily from 10:00 to 20:00.
  • In the low season, it is open Thursdays to Sundays as well as on public holidays and bridge days.
  • During the school vacations in Thuringia in the low season, it is also open daily.
  • The 2025 season is scheduled to end on November 2.

The last entry to the climbing forest is at least two hours before the park closes!

Directions to the Koala climbing park

To get to the Koala climbing forest, take the A9 motorway and take the Lederhose exit. Sufficient parking spaces are available directly at the climbing forest.
