Since 1965, the Schongau Fairy Tale Forest has been a favourite family day-trip destination in the Pfaffenwinkel region, beautifully set in the woods between Schongau and Peiting in Upper Bavaria. On the compact site, you’ll find scenes and storytelling from the best-known fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm, and along the circular trail you’ll reach goats, sheep, rheas and many other animals.
Alongside the fairy tales, there are attractions that especially delight children aged 2 to around 8. The train ride to the Dwarf Mine (included in admission), a water play area, bumper cars, bouncy cushions, the Dragon Stage and a dedicated forest adventure trail. On the lawns with sun loungers, you can take a breather while the kids let off steam on the playgrounds.
You can satisfy your hunger and thirst at the Dragon Tavern with Bavarian cuisine, in the Witch’s Kitchen or at the kiosk. There’s always a vegan dish available. You’re welcome to bring your own snacks and eat them in the picnic areas. Parking for cars and motorhomes is free. Payment is accepted in cash, by EC card or contactless. Dogs on a lead are welcome (€2 admission). The park is certified as accessible (“Accessibility checked”, regularly evaluated by Bayern Tourist GmbH) and is open year-round: daily in summer, and in winter at weekends, on public holidays and during Bavarian school holidays, with a renovation break from early January to mid-February. Birthday children get free admission.

Very lovely place with big playgrounds, a nice train to ride and a lot of tales to listen. Sure there could be a bit more action on where the stories are told but there is so much to explore for the kids even some nice animals. Very fair price for the value and book online upfront for a small discount.
Nice place for smaller children (up to 10yrs), many but not too much attraction and cute animals. There is a path in the Forest with the most famous Grimm tales. (the storytelling is German). Recommend to visit.
A blast for my Kids, great playgrounds, we love being in nature, we love animals, they even got amazing birds 🐦❤️💚 so... Perfect spot to spend some quality time with the family.
It was a pleasant experience, especially if you want to hear stories from childhood, see some animals and ride ponies.
