The Avondale Treetop Walk in Forest Park

The Avondale Treetop Walk in County Wicklow takes you 1,440 meters from the start of the walkway to the top of the viewing tower through the canopy of Avondale Forest Park. Opened in June 2022, it was the first fully accessible treetop walk in Ireland and the UK.

A ten-story tower

At the end of the path stands the 38-meter-high viewing tower with ten stories. From the platform, you are 168 meters above sea level with panoramic views of the Wicklow Mountains, the Avonmore River, and the Vale of Avoca. For the way back, there is a 90-meter-long spiral slide for an extra fee, which starts at a height of 29 meters and is the longest slide in Ireland. Children under six must be accompanied. If you prefer a quieter pace, you can walk back via the walkway.

Accessible from start to finish

The walkway and tower are suitable for strollers and wheelchairs throughout, with a gradient that never exceeds six percent. Everything was built from Douglas fir and larch, using over 110,000 screws. Motorized mobility scooters are not permitted on the walkway, but you can borrow a wheelchair at reception. Companions of guests with special support needs receive free admission. Guide dogs are welcome everywhere.

Along the way, you’ll pass yews, oaks, larches, and giant sequoias, while stations explain the local flora and fauna and the history of the site as the birthplace of Irish forestry. On the grounds, you will also find play areas for children, the Coillte Pavilion, a sensory garden, and the historic Avondale House, where guided tours are offered. You will need a separate booking for the parking lot.
