The Treetop Walk Salzkammergut winds for a total of 1,400 meters through the dense mixed mountain forest on Grünberg, up to 21 meters above the forest floor. After 615 meters, you reach the 39-meter-high observation tower. Along the way and from above, Gmunden, Lake Traun, Traunstein, and the Pre-Alps stretch out before you.
The tower is predominantly made of wood and constructed in an environmentally friendly manner. Its shape resembles a giant salt barrel, alluding to the region’s history. The walkway inside measures 785 meters and ascends at a maximum gradient of six percent, allowing access to the top platform with a wheelchair or stroller, where a panoramic view awaits you.
You can return either via the ramp or through the 75-meter-long tunnel slide inside the tower. It costs two euros per ride and is open to children aged six and older.
Right by the path is the Grünbergalm, which has existed for almost a hundred years and serves Austrian cuisine on its panoramic terrace. An easy hike of about an hour takes you to Lake Laudach with the historic Ramsaualm. Dogs are not allowed on the path; dog kennels are available at the entrance, with keys issued up to one hour before closing time. A combined ticket is available with the Grünberg cable car.
