Treehouse holiday at Kriebstein Reservoir

On the banks of the Kriebstein reservoir in Saxony lies the Kriebelland tree house hotel, a place that is hard to believe at first glance: tree houses, wooden barrels, old Baltic Sea sailing boats and a Mongolian yurt, all high above the water or deep in the forest, are waiting for you to move in. If you’ve always wanted to know what it feels like to sleep in a 28-metre-high tree house or dream in a ship’s berth above the lake, you’ll find five different answers here. Operator Steffen Mäding has designed the area by hand, and you can see that in every detail he has carved himself.

The offer is aimed at families as well as couples looking for something special. Depending on the tree house, you have your own kitchen or kitchenette, a forest bathroom right next to the house and a sun terrace with a view of the reservoir. All houses are equipped with a coffee machine, kettle, fridge, crockery and cutlery so that you can cater for yourself. If you wish, you can use the tree house tavern on the grounds or order fresh bread rolls in the morning. There is a barbecue area on the site itself, which is included for overnight guests, as well as a treasure hunt where you can even find the Wi-Fi password. If you also want to immerse yourself in the Middle Ages, you should definitely visit nearby Kriebstein Castle.

The Baumhaushotel Kriebelland has already been used as a filming location for an ARD production and is an official ADAC partner. Well-behaved dogs are allowed. There is only a flat rate of 65 euros per stay. You must bring your own bed linen and towels or book them as an option (8 euros per person for bed linen, 4 euros per person for towels). The houses can be booked in different periods: weekends from Friday to Sunday, public holiday offers with a minimum of 3 to 4 nights and a summer holiday offer from Monday. Single nights are not accepted.

Overview of the treehouses

Romantic tree house

The Romantik tree house is the largest house in Kriebelland and is said to be the largest tree house in Germany. It is set in 180-year-old oak trees and reaches a height of 27 to 28 meters with its sleeping loft. The 83 square meters, spread over three floors, can accommodate up to 4 people (plus up to 4 additional people). On the first floor you will find a fireplace room with a sofa bed, a bedroom with a four-poster bed and the so-called girls’ bathroom with underfloor heating, watering can shower and river stone basin. The kitchen-living room, the dining area and a 25-square-metre sun terrace are located one floor up. On the top floor, you sleep on the sleeping loft with a view of the lake. The house is air-conditioned in summer and heated in winter by a heat pump underfloor heating system. The night costs 745 euros for up to 4 people.

Barrel tree house

The barrel tree house is a fixed, round sleeping area for up to 2 people and a child. At 14 square meters plus sun terrace, it is the smallest house in Kriebelland, but by no means the most uncomfortable: a separate sleeping area with two beds, a living area with fridge and coffee corner as well as its own sun terrace with lake view make it a compact retreat. The private forest bathroom with shower and WC is right next to the house. Air conditioning ensures pleasant temperatures all year round. The night costs 340 euros for 2 people.

Tree house yurt

The tree house yurt is suspended 4 meters above the lake shore and offers a combination of Mongolian nomadic flair and a direct view of the lake on 42 square meters. The centerpiece is a huge larch bed (2.45 m x 2.20 m) with a view of the reservoir, plus a mangrove root table, two giant armchairs and a small kitchen corner. You can relax on the round terrace, laze around in the hanging net and enjoy the water. The private forest bath with shower is accessible via the terrace. Air conditioning and fan heater are available. There is space for up to 2 adults and 2 children. The night costs 375 euros for 2 people.

Treehouse sailing ships

The sailing ships are perhaps the most unusual accommodation offer in Kriebelland: two genuine Baltic Sea boats, a Finnish folk boat (14 m²) and a Swedish royal cruiser (12 m²), are suspended 4 meters above the lakeshore and are connected to each other via a jetty. Below deck you sleep in two separate berths, connected by a cuddle bridge if you wish. There is a coffee board, fridge, kettle and cutlery on board. You can sunbathe and read on deck. A fan heater provides warmth on cool days. The bathroom is 50 meters away. Both sailing ships can be booked for up to 2 people each, the night costs 300 euros per ship.

Tree house tent

The tree house tent is the fifth type of accommodation in Kriebelland. Like the barrel and yurt, it has its own heated forest bathroom. A fan heater provides warmth. Details on the size and exact facilities can be found directly on the tree house hotel website.
